| or better machine, a hard disk, and 640K.
SHOOTING.ZIP 97066 11-18-93 Shooting Gallery (Anderson, Nels, ASP; $10)
| is a terrific arcade shooting game with
| several different challenges. The shooting
| gallery would be good enough by itself, with
| its many different targets whizzing by, but
| there is also a skeet shoot and a quick-draw
| contest that should you turn you into the
| Fastest Mouse in the West. Get past those,
| and you face a shoot-out with the bad guys,

| and a mouse are required.

| mouse or joystick. Requires 500K free disk
| space.
XLAGIT.EXE 58051 05-29-91 Xlagit (Tangtrakul, Atakorn; $5) is a
| shoot-em-up action game in which
| international flags are dropped randomly
| from the top of the screen, and you must
| destroy ONLY the Iraqi flag. The more points
| you amass, the faster the action gets. If
| Sadamm's smiling face appears you can blow
| him away for extra points. This game
| requires a mouse, and has excellent EGA/VGA
| graphics, but also supports CGA.
BEYOND.COM 23815 11-24-89 Beyond Columns 1.1 (Taylor, Brad P.; $0)
| "...is like Tetris, only different." That's
| what our write-up of this program would have
| been before reading the background given by
| the author, who says: "The original Columns
| game was invented for the X window system by
| Jay Geertsen of HP" before Tetris came
| along. In this game, you control columns as
| they move down the screen, much like with
| Tetris. However, each column is composed of
| three different blocks and you make the
| columns dissolve by getting three blocks of
| the same color or design (your choice of
| several block designs is given) in a row,
| vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. To
| further complicate things, you can rearrange
| the blocks within the columns so that, for
| example, if a column on the bottom has two
| green blocks on top and the falling column
| has a green block in the middle, say, you
| can rotate the middle green block to the
| bottom of the column so that when it lands
| on the column with the two green blocks,
| there will be three green blocks in a row,
| causing them to dissolve. In our opinion,
| this program is a lot more difficult than
| Tetris. The Easy level drove us to a nervous
| breakdown. The bad news: it is for VGA or
| MVGA only, and it appears that you have to
| reboot to get out of the program.
BRIX_EM.EXE 284911 01-12-93 Brix I (Epic MegaGames ASP; $34) is a
| falling-block game with a lot of features:
| lasers, elevators, lava, anti-gravity, and
| more. There are 112 levels to challenge you.
| The game features superb VGA graphics and
| animation, Sound Blaster music and digital
| sound. Requires VGA, 286 or better, 512K
| RAM, and a hard disk.
BRIX.EXE 111203 01-20-92 Brix 2.0 (Dlugosz Software; $5) is an
| impressive falling-block game. As you
| progress to higher levels, the game speed
| increases, the playing field becomes
| smaller, and the puzzle shapes become more
| complicated. Other features include solo
| play or head-to-head competition, four
| difficulty levels ranging from easy to
| impossible, and more. A sliding tile puzzle
| game is also included. EGA/VGA required.
COLORJB.COM 29805 07-23-90 Colors 1.1 (BONCZYK, JIM; $?) has many new
| strategies. Requires VGA.
CUBER.EXE 74712 09-07-90 Cuber 2.0 (Soleau, William; $12) is a
| challenging variation of the falling block
| game.
DBLOCKS.COM 35275 05-27-90 Double Blocks (Yale, Ernest Yale; $5) is a
| falling block game for one or two players.
| The program is well designed, colorful, and
| has good sound effects which can be turned
| off. Because it uses ASCII characters for
| graphics, it will work with any type of
| video. (The author can no longer be reached
| at the address listed in the documentation.)
DOUBLNK.EXE 83585 12-08-92 Double Link (Tupaczewski, Paul; $15) is a
| very addictive falling-block game. An oblong
| shape, which is actually two round units
| linked together, is dropped down the chute.
| Sometimes they are the same color, but often
| they are not. When four units of the same
| color are aligned together vertically or
| horizontally, they disappear and the other
| units in the links are left behind. If a
| unit left behind was being held aloft by its
| partner, it drops when the partner is
| removed. This can set up a chain reaction as
| a unit drops to form a group with three
| matching units below it. Each level starts
| with more and more Meanies (units with
| faces) in the chute. Once all of the Meanies
| are removed by grouping matching colors with
| them, the level is over.
EGAINT.COM 62585 10-04-90 EgaInt 0.94.12 (Ng, Eric; $0) is a falling
| block game. Several options are available
| such as a tournament mode, your choice of
| control keys and block styles, and eleven
| levels of play. Requires EGA/VGA.
MULTIX.COM 37559 10-05-90 Multix (Blackstone Software; $10) is an
| interesting and challenging falling-block
| game. The falling pieces are very
| irregularly shaped, so placing them is very
| challenging. You can "crunch" a portion on
| the piece to make it fit better, but this
| will subtract from your score. Requires EGA.
NYET.EXE 67814 06-28-91 Tommy's Nyet 04.29.90 (Tommy's Toys; $?) is
| a basic falling-block game.
NYET3.ZIP 602970 08-24-93 Nyet III [PROLINE Software; $40] is a super
| falling-block type game with many innovative
| features. There are many different
| variations of the game, such as one in which
| blocks that have already come down partially
| melt away and the next in which appendages
| suddenly appear. You have to win "money" on
| the lower levels with which to buy tools for
| taking on the higher levels. The program
| features great graphics, sounds, and opening
| animation. Requires VGA, hard disk, 286+.
ROPO.EXE 51420 11-23-91 Rodeo Poker 1.0 (Herring, Steve; $8) is a
| western-style falling-block game. Instead of
| falling blocks, this game uses playing cards
| that drop down four chutes for you arrange
| into groups of five to make winning poker
| hands. You can jump a card from one chute to
| another. The better the hand the bigger the
| score.
STT.EXE 51016 08-16-91 Shift Tac Toe (Hanchin, Len; $10) is a
| falling block type game in which you must
| shift the colors of three vertical blocks as
| they fall so that they will match up with
| other blocks of the same color. It starts
| off easy, but the action gets faster, the
| longer you go.
TEAMTRS.EXE 42055 11-06-91 Teamtris (Cinetic Systems; $0) is a
| falling-block game that lets you play
| against a human opponent, as well as playing
| solo. You can choose between two board
| sizes. VGA required.
TEXTRIS.ZIP 109369 09-09-93 Textris 2.0 (Hanlin, Thomas G. III; $12) is
| a falling-block game that makes you spell
| words as the letterblocks fall. If you like
| Tetris type games and you like word games,
| we guarantee that you will love Textris.
| Words can be made horizontally or vertically
| and must be from 3-7 letters long. When the
| letterblocks form a word, they are
| highlighted for a moment and then removed.
| The blocks above those being removed move
| down a row and if any new words are formed
| as a result, they are removed too. Points
| are awarded according to the difficulty of
| the words spelled. A game like this requires
| a good dictionary built in for determining
| when a word has been spelled. If it has a
| poor or limited dictionary, you will be
| frustrated by its rejecting words that you
| know are good. We were very satisfied with
| Textris' dictionary. Requires EGA/VGA.
TOWERS.ZIP 116146 11-21-93 Towers (Cascoly Software ASP; $24) The
| object is to build a tower one level at a
| time with falling blocks of various sizes.
| You need quick reflexes to be able to fit
| the blocks in the tightest pattern. There
| are detailed 3-D perspective graphics that
| change as you scroll the screen. Requires
| EGA/VGA and a mouse.
VALGUS.COM 48706 07-18-91 Valgus Squared (Glenn, James R. Jr.; $10) is
| a falling-block game with pieces moving in
| from all four sides. The object is to
| complete squares around the block in the
| middle. Since you never know what direction
| the next piece will be coming from, you do
| not have long to react, making this a very
| challenging game.
XTETRIS.EXE 76419 10-24-90 xTetris 2.0 (Singer, Daniel; $0) is a
| falling-block game which includes triangular
| shapes as well as rectangles.
XXIV.EXE 58494 06-18-93 XXIV (Ambachtsheer, Mark; $10) is a
| falling-block type math game. Sets of three
| numbers fall and the object is to get
| numbers to multiply together to equal 24,
| horizontally or vertically. Three levels of
| difficulty keep you on your toes.
HORROR.EXE 60886 06-07-93 EndLess Horror (JMS Enterprises; $10) is a
| parody of the Street Fighter arcade type
| game. All the ozone has burned up and you
| must fight off the evil Froggers.
EXECUTE.ZIP 557821 07-23-93 Executioners (Bloodlust Software; $35) is an
| intense fighting game for 1 or 2 players. It
| features a total of eight fighting moves,
| and machine guns, and a variety of strange
| super-villians. It also features music and
| digitized sounds effects. Requires VGA and
| 386+ with at least 1 meg of expanded memory.
KUNGFU.ZIP 314123 11-20-93 Kung Fu Louie (Salgado, R.; $30) is an
| arcade game in which you, as Kung Fu Louie,
| must fight the "evil" martial artists. This
| is a MAJOR programming effort covering three
| disks. The documentation lists a dozen
| people as co-authors. The program requires a
| 286 or 386 computer with EGA compatible
| video to keep the realistic karate graphics
| moving smoothly and quickly. The AdLib music
| card is supported, but if you don't have
| one, you will still get a musical soundtrack
| on the PC's speaker. A couple of the authors
| are karate students, and it shows in the
| graphics and play of the game. A front punch
| does the least damage, but can be thrown the
| fastest. A back spinning hook kick to the
| head is the most damaging blow, but is so
| slow it is easily avoided or countered by a
| faster technique. Two other techniques, a
| front snapkick to the body and a roundhouse
| kick to the head, do medium damage at medium
| speed. There are four different scenes, and
| you have to defeat several "bad guys" at
| each location, and of course, the
| competition keeps getting tougher. The
| scenery is very impressive.
BATALIA.COM 40112 11-03-89 Batalia is a two-player game in which you
| and your opponent each have a space ship and
| the object is to be the first to shoot the
| other a total of ten times. Barriers, etc,
| are placed on the screen for you to hide
| behind and maneuver around. The screen
| changes after each hit.

| around ammo dumps, fuel tanks, bunkers and
| mine fields. Requires EGA/VGA.
GRAVWAR.COM 42786 11-15-90 Gravity Wars (Ismail-Beigi, Sohrab; $0) is
| an interesting variation of the old
| two-player, tank aim-and-shoot type game.
| Instead of tanks, you have space ships, and
| the gravity of nearby planets and stars
| affect your shots. For each game, you can
| toggle through randomly drawn star systems
| to find one that looks particularly
| interesting and challenging. VGA required.
HAVOC.EXE 39519 12-28-92 Electron Havoc 1.1 (Shramko, John; $10) lets
| you and an opponent take turns firing at

| typical aim-and-shoot tank game. It looks
| like the old VGA-Bomb on the surface, but
| one major difference is the variety of
| weapons from which to choose. Another
| interesting difference is the choice of six
| opponent types, and the attackee has
| defensive options. VGA is required, and a
| mouse is optional.

| different is that the better you do, the
| more walls start sprouting up. If that isn't
| challenging enough, you can choose to steer
| the snake with only left and right turns
| from the snake's perspective, as opposed to
| using the four arrow keys which always
| result in movement in the arrow's direction.

| $10) is a sophisticated variation of the old
| Snake type game in which the
| ever-lengthening worm must maneuver around
| to swallow stuff while avoiding running into
| things. Transporters take you to different
| levels, and eating a clock gives you more
| time. Eating dynamite sticks will cause part
| of the worm to explode, making it easier to
| maneuver, but if the worm is not long
| enough, it may all explode and you die.
TROFF.EXE 69230 08-28-90 Troff (Soumarokov, N.; $10) is a game that
| combines the old "Snake" type game with the
| old "Blockade/Tron" type game to come up
| with a tough new challenge. You must race
| the computer's snake to get to the randomly
| appearing "pellets", and at the same time
| try to make the computer's snake run into
| your snake, a wall or itself while avoiding
| having the computer's snake do the same to
| you. There are four levels of randomly
| moving walls. Pascal source code is
| included. Requires a 286 machine, EGA and

| with an interesting feature - the files that

| easily create customized playing fields. You
| could make a whole set of screens for
| special promotions or events, for example,
| limited only by your imagination.
BANANOI.EXE 49176 07-06-93 Bananoid (Rieder, William; $0) is the best
| breakout type game we have ever seen on a
| PC. It requires VGA or MCGA, a mouse, and at
| least a 286-10. The graphics are beautiful.
| One unusual feature is that the playing
| field is two screens wide and scrolls
| smoothly as you move the mouse. Another
| unusual feature (for a breakout game) is
| that every once in a while, one of the
| colored blocks that you are breaking out
| falls down the screen and if you catch it
| with the paddle, it changes the paddle (to
| narrower, double-wide, or "sticky"), or it
| changes the paddle to a ship which can fire
| laser blasts at the remaining blocks (while
| the ball is still bouncing around, of
| course), or it advances you to the next
| screen. Which of these happens depends on
| the color of the block.

POPCORN.COM 60371 01-26-90 PopCorn (Lacaze, M.; $0) is a fantastic
| breakout game with all kinds of special
| effects. There are two problems: the
| documentation is in French, and the game
| plays at a speed about ten times that of the
| surrounding graphics. See the write-up of
| this program in the REVIEWS directory
| (GA_03) for tips on running this program.
SBLAST.EXE 73888 06-16-93 Moraff's Super Blast I (Moraff, Steve; $0)

| half the fun. Virtually all video systems
| are supported, from CGA to Super-VGA. A
| joystick is supported on AT's.
LAVACAP.ZIP 90584 11-20-93 Lava Cap (Soleau, William; $15) is a
| variation of Soleau's popular Oilcap game,
| but with many enhanced features. It seems
| much harder to us. If you are not familiar
| with this type of game: the scenario is that
| a volcano is getting ready to erupt, and you
| must lay pipes, which come in different
| configurations, to direct the flow of lava.
| The longer the uninterrupted path you are
| able to create, the higher your score. You
| must reach certain point totals to continue
| to advance to each of the 20 levels. EGA/VGA

| the old Atari arcade game, Kaboom!. The
| object is to catch all the falling items.
| The type of item changes with each "wave".
| It may be raining cats and dogs in one wave
| and kitchen appliances in another. The
| changing graphics makes the game more
| interesting than Kaboom!. It takes a long
| time to get up to a pace that is really
| challenging, but we seem to recall that
| Kaboom! was the same way. Requires VGA (with
| 256k), a mouse, and a 286 or faster.

| high-resolution asteroids game for the EGA.

| trouble getting the feel of the keys the
| program uses for different functions. We
| suspect that the key selection was based on
| a standard keyboard rather than the 101-key
| keyboard. EGA required. We have also
| included in this archive a patch (by John
| Deurbrouck) that will increase the maximum
| number of ships from three to thousands, so
| that you can get more practice. It will also
| create a new EGAroid file that allows only
